| Lençóis Maranhenses |
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is undoubtedly among Brazil’s most fascinating natural attractions. This “desert” spans approximately 155,000 hectares, where snow-white sand dunes rising up to 40 metres high frame heavenly, crystal-clear blue lagoons formed by heavy summer rains between January and May.
For trekking enthusiasts, it is possible to organise a journey of two or more days across the park, staying overnight in small native villages that serve as true desert oases. The gateway to the park is Sao Luis do Maranhão, where you can explore its colonial architectural complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Starting from Lençóis Maranhenses, you can embark on a stunning itinerary: the “Northeast Parks Off-Road” tour. This route crosses the Panaíba Delta – the largest in the Americas – and continues along breathtaking coastlines with paradisiacal beaches, traditional fishing villages, and pristine dune parks.
